| Q - How fast do they go? A - It depends who is on it. A diver with lots of gear would create lots of drag and will not go as fast as a thin skin diver or swimmer. At max thrust setting, a thin swimmer is pushed at approx. 5 mph. Let's just say they are much faster than most all other DPD's.
Q - How deep do they go? A - These machines are not recommended for deep water dives. Tippmann Aquatics, Inc. recommends about 25-30 ft., although we have played to depths beyond 50 feet.
Q - How much do they weigh? A - About the same as any other quality DPD. The Surf Shark weighs 52 pounds without the batteries. Two 20 pound batteries brings it up to 92 lbs. So it is suggested getting it close to the water before loading the batteries. The Electric Dolphin weighs 33 lbs. without batteries.
Q - How do you turn them on and off? A - First you set the desired thrust on the power selection dial. Then, under your right foot on the platform there is a pedal switch. Push it down and the thrust starts and when you let up on the pedal, or step off, it comes to a quick stop.
Q - What happens when you step off? A - The machine will stop running and floats to the surface.
Q - How far will they go? A - Once again, this depends on a lot of factors. Such as: How large the operator? How much gear? What setting of thrust? There really isn't a set distance.
Q - How do you know when the batteries are low? A - You begin to feel the thrust start to weaken and you have 5 - 10 minutes to get back to the boat or shore.
Q - Can they be used in heavy surf? A - Yes, the Surf Shark was specifically designed to play in heavy surf. All we can say is it is extremely fun and exciting.
